The power guy came today to connect Dr. Kay’s house and the print shop to their own meter (we are all on one meter at the moment and the print shop has no power). As seems to be the case each time it is worked on, I was the one up on the pole, welding. We had our New Years Eve service tonight. As part of it, Trevor did a magic show for everyone. The people were all amazed and absolutely loved it! He’s getting very good at the tricks. He’s also getting really good at coming up with spiritual applications for each trick. When midnight arrived it was quite loud! Someone started tossing rocks onto the metal roof and they clanged and clattered as they rolled off! Welcome to 2012! May the Lord work in a mighty way this year. And, we pray the Lord returns before we ring in 2013!
We had a baptism at the Polu River today. The best part was that Connor was baptized, too! It was a beautiful afternoon. There was sunshine the whole time the 7 people were baptized. Then it started to get cloudy. We all piled back into the Dyna and Hilux and headed back to the church (about a 20 minute drive). It started pouring! Everyone was completely soaked by the time we got back.
The meeting is going well. We started it last night and had services this morning and evening, too.
I went to Hagen for supplies. I also picked up the first load of things for the youth camp. I will go back in again next week for the next load. Dad and Bro. Kay put together the boys’ bunk bed. I already made it and varnished it all, but hadn’t gotten to put it together. Dad needed the old bed for the visiting pastor he has preaching for the Keremini meeting, which starts tomorrow night. Since I needed to go to town they completed this job. The boys love their new bunk bed!
Brad and family went back to Hagen today. I need to go in tomorrow for supplies so I let Trevor go back with them to spend the night. Dad, Bro. Kay, and I had a nice long meeting about camp and what all needs to happen. They will both preach during camp. I will start picking up supplies tomorrow. Pastor Sam will come with me, too, to get supplies for the Pangia New Years meeting, which starts tomorrow night.
Brad, Deborah, and kids, arrived late last night. This morning they all (along with dad and mom) came to the door singing Christmas carols. It was very fun! After they sang for us we joined in and headed to the Kays house where we all sang carols for them. We had a wonderful day with the family and are so thankful we were able to all be together to celebrate Christmas. God is good!
Pastor Sam asked Bro. Kay to preach the A.M. and P.M. services. One message centered around a desire for revenge. He did a great job showing how God can get the glory and we can’t just take things into our own hands and harbor anger. It was a very timely message! So many of the men in the church have been saying how they wish they were there on Tuesday. That they would have fought and killed the men. But, that’s exactly why God didn’t allow any of them to be there! Here’s Trevor and Derrick adding pictures to the chalkboard for Sunday School. They love to add pictures!
We had a nice relaxing day today. After this week it was especially needed! Since Christmas (tomorrow) is on a Sunday we celebrated today. Kirsten made all kinds of goodies and we had a great day!
The police chief in Ialibu called me today. He said he is aware of the situation and is ready and willing to come make arrests if the need arises. Even though this was a very bad event we don’t feel like we are in a dangerous spot. This was an isolated event and we are comfortable and secure where we are. The Kulipini meeting ended this evening. I spoke with pastor Sam on the phone. He said this event has caused a great unity among the pastors who are at this meeting (there are 38 pastors and 5 preachers who are looking after churches). There’s been some petty divisions and bickering. But, it appears this has caused them to unite in a way that they haven’t in awhile. I am so very happy about this! It appears there’s more happening in my absence than may have happened in my presence! God knows!
We made copies of the reports because various authorities are requesting them. I spent a good deal of time on the phone again today. Unfortunately, this is taking all of our time at the moment! My back is feeling pretty sore and the bruising is becoming extremely colorful. But, thankfully, it appears it will be short lived. This is one of the never ending (or appears to be never ending) stream of meetings we are having.
